On New Year's Day, 2025, a tragic act of terrorism unfolded in New Orleans, leaving 14 people dead. The terrorist, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar - a U.S. citizen from Houston - died after coming into contact with police officers. Authorities discovered guns and explosives in Jabbar’s vehicle, which was marked with the flag of the Islamic State group. In the hours leading up to the attack, Jabbar posted online videos in which he declared his support for ISIS. The attack took place on Bourbon Street, a world-renowned destination for New Year's Eve parties. Investigators also found that Jabbar had recently traveled to Cairo, Egypt, and Ontario, Canada, though it remains unclear if those trips were linked to the attack. Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia addressed the media, confirming the details of the investigation, but emphasizing that connections to his foreign travels were still under review. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to uncover any further details that may shed light on Jabbar's motives and connections, while the city of New Orleans deals with the devastating impact of this senseless act of violence.
