Permanent Impermanence
By: Maya Fraga

When you feel sadness trickle in, you think that you'll drown in it
When happiness shines on you, you think the summer will last forever.
When anger burns you, you think you'll become ash.
We feel things so deeply, we feel things so intensely.
But nothing is permanent.
The rain will end, and you will be able to breathe again.
The sun will be clouded, and you will be able to go outside again.
The fire will extinguish, and you will learn to be cold again.
The aches will be soothed.
The cuts will scab over.
You are not who you were yesterday.
You do not feel how you did at 13.
You are everything you’ve ever felt.
You feel just as deeply as you did at 6.
Things will end. Things will begin.
Don’t let it drown you, or burn you, or hurt you.
Just feel everything.
And then feel it pass.
