Winter Activities

By: Nilgun Bozdemir

Winter has arrived, and so have the activities that come with it! From indoor fun, such as reading by the fire or festive baking, to outdoor activities like skiing, sledding, and snowboarding. All adventures benefit human wellbeing by reducing stress and improving the mood by movement. This is why I have gathered some fun activities you can do in your free time from friends and family to solitary fun.You are sure to find some new hobbies and joys throughout the list.

Outdoor fun with friends and family:

Epic snowball fight: Build walls of snow to protect yourself and your team from the enemy. Keep your guards up!
Build a snowman (or women). Make sure to add cool details giving it a whole new personality.
Go sledding: Have races and games, go down a giant hill, but make sure to dress up warm and safe for the weather.
Go ice skating: Just make sure you don’t take your friends down with you as you fall!
Skiing: Make sure to be careful and dress up accordingly.

Indoor fun with friends and family:

Build a gingerbread house: You can make it into a competition! Whichever team has the best gingerbread house by the end of the time wins!
Bake cookies: Make cute festive cookies with faces, clothes, or a cool shape such as a snowman or snowflake.
Make pizza: Not as festive, yet a cozy fun activity you can enjoy with friends and even watch a holiday movie as you enjoy.
Holiday crafts: Make snowflakes, do origami, or even knit or crochet, show your talent!
Play cards: Goldfish, slapjack (do not recommend unless you’re okay with having pain in your hand for a while), memory games, and more!

Solitary activities:

Read: Make yourself some hot chocolate, find a warm fuzzy blanket, and enjoy a good book by the fireplace or a window with a good view of the snow.
Bake: Cinnamon rolls, cookies, cake, all great options with amazing taste!
Knit/crochet: Make yourself a scarf, mittens, sweater, anything you desire! A fun activity that can be quickly learned by a few simple videos online.
Homemade caramel popcorn: Open up a favourite holiday movie, relax, and enjoy as the cozy atmosphere takes all your worries away.
Draw or paint: A great way to release stress and improve skills and creativity, some ideas can be a snowfall scene, self portrait, or even a scribble. You do not have to be Picasso to have fun!

As the winter goes on, it is important to remember that our mental and physical health is our top priority. It is essential to take a break and enjoy some activities and have some time for yourself. Have a wonderful holiday!
