Is the NBA Getting Exciting Again?
By: Eeshar Pannu

Introduction
The 2025 NBA season has brought a level of energy that fans haven’t felt in years. The league has faster, younger, and more competitive players, with new dynasties breaking records that we thought would last for decades.
Instead of questioning what the NBA used to be, fans are asking: who’s dominating now, and why does the NBA feel more exciting?
Which players are dominating now?
The 2025 season is full of excitement because of the league’s new wave of superstar talent. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has become the league’s top scorer. He averaged 32.7 points per game last season with 6.4 assists and 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Anthony Edwards has emerged as a top scorer for the Minnesota Timberwolves with 27.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
Rising big men and playmakers like Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama continue to draw attention. Wembanyama led the league with 3.8 blocks per game last season, standing at 7 feet 4 inches!
Rising stars like Paolo Banchero and Scoot Henderson are also pushing the competition higher every night, creating a league full of young players capable of taking over games. There’s more scoring, creativity, and playmaking than ever before, something we’ve been waiting for.
Rising Teams
With a lot of emerging talent, several teams have transformed into legitimate contenders. The Thunder, Timberwolves, Magic, Nuggets, and Rockets are no longer rebuilding projects; they’re playoff threats with strong cores and elite coaching, thanks to leading players like Gilgeous-Alexander, Edwards, Wembanyama and Nikola Jokić. Since scoring stars are spread across many teams, they have become more competitive and there’s no guaranteed championship favorite. This makes every week of the regular season feel unpredictable.
Even players outside of the MVP race like Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Williams, Jamal Murray, and Jayson Tatum, can drop 30 points any given night, pushing the competition higher, adding explosive scoring and highlight moments that keep fans attentive.
Current Veterans
While the new stars dominate, the league’s veterans still draw attention. Stephen Curry continues to lead the Golden State Warriors, reminding fans how he changed the game in the first place. Kevin Durant (Houston Rockets) and Kawhi Leonard (LA Clippers) remain elite scorers. Even LeBron James puts up numbers despite being 40 years old.
The blend of rising stars earn the respect of fans and solidify their place, while veterans continue to prove they belong in the league they dominated, leading to matchups and storylines that keep fans hooked.
Global Reach
The NBA is also becoming increasingly global, and that global interest is powering much of today’s excitement. International stars like Wembanyama (France), SGA (Canada), Jokić (Serbia), Luka Dončić (Slovenia), and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece) give the league a worldwide reach. Additionally, players are engaging with fans through TikTok and Instagram. Off the court, social media has boosted excitement more than ever.
More countries are watching, more play styles are mixing, and more young international players are trying to follow in their footsteps, so the energy is louder and fans actually care about the regular-season games again.
Conclusion
So, is the NBA getting more exciting again? Absolutely. With young scorers lighting up the league every night and international stars taking over, fans finally have a season where anything can happen. The real question isn’t what the NBA used to be, but who will continue to dominate and will this excitement last?
