Our Unheard Voices

By Diva Sood

When we are born like clueless little souls,

We have no idea what our life is going to hold,

We simply just live every little moment,

Never knowing that we could ever be a disappointment.

We laugh aimlessly at every little commotion,

We are consoled for all of our emotions,

But as we grow up, we learn life is more complicated,

We’re never prepared and we become frustrated.

People tell us what we should and shouldn’t be,

And we finally realize life is not a cup of tea,

Even then we still struggle to prove ourselves again and again,

To our family, to our friends, to ourselves, to the world,

And no, it’s not the same as when we were ten.

We’re scrutinized for every little thing we do,

What happened to that little happy life we always knew?

Blood, sweat and tears rush through our veins,

But no one sees our tears because we’re told to contain.

It’s not that we can’t cry or that we can’t have a gloom,

But why does it always have to be expressed in a bathroom,

Why do we have to put on a happy face but be disturbed,

Why can’t there just be a place to be heard?

You could say it’s life and just move on,

But sometimes there’s no escape and no one to call upon,

You feel like you’re alone trapped in a dark place,

With no help or people to shine a light on your face.

We all learn that being young is fun,

But no one tells us about the phase where we just want to run,

We feel stressed and we shatter into a million different pieces,

And it’s hard to put them back together, it’s out of our reaches.

Who will hear us?
