Behind the scenes at the 2024 culture expo fashion show

Emily Carr’s first ever cultural expo was a year in the making. The Fashion Committee had been planning to hold a cultural fashion show since 2023 but the coordination posed a big problem. The original plan was to design and sew clothes based on our cultures, but designing, measuring, finding fabric, and sewing a complete outfit was too time consuming and labor intensive to be an attainable goal for everyone. Only one person was able to create something in time, the president of the Fashion Committee. The process of sewing even a simple skirt takes hours- hours that many did not have between school and part time jobs. The change of plans to wearing cultural clothes that everyone already had saved the fashion show.
The Lead club and the MLE class joined into the process and together created posters highlighting the culture and history of the countries represented in the fashion show. The posters showcased art, food, traditions, and histories of countries from around the world. All students worked together to have them finished on time and many lunches were spent in the art room painting and gluing. All the posters turned out beautifully and added so much to the fashion show. The fashion show was a great success due to all the work put in by the fashion committee, Lead and the MLE class, and of course guidance of Ms Carmicheal and Ms LoRe.
